Unfortunately, I managed to inhale some corpse gas while investigating a dead body and I met my untimely end. At this point I was pretty old and I had taken the medicine line of traits to try and prolong my existence until I could scrape together enough money to form the Kingdom of Wales. Eventually, the stress of me murdering all of his children caused Charles to die and I chose not to continue the war satisfied that I had come out on top. This suited me just fine because I divorced her and remarried to get a better alliance. I made out pretty well I murdered like 7 Karlings compared to their only success which was to seduce my wife. I thought I had gotten away with it but shortly after her death Charles declared me a rival and then a house war began. Playing as the Welsh ruler, I assassinated Charles the Bald's daughter to invalidate his alliance with a neighboring ruler who I wanted to invade. Assassination has much greater consequences than it had previously. This is where we could hook in cultural traditions like Ruling Caste, Xenophilic, African Tolerance, etc as well as legacies like the Customs line with its Cultural Emissary position and Celebrate Other Cultures decision. For example, do you have a culturally/religiously tolerant empire that simply expect taxes to be paid, or do you try to achieve cultural/religious conformity in exchange for lenient taxation policies? What benefits does your empire offer to its subjects - kingdoms whose rulers fear incursions from disliked cultures or faiths should be more willing to submit. appointing a trusted ally of the right culture/faith and personality as king-tier over an area could make revolts against you less likely by focusing local ire on them (this ally would presumably expect either funding, privileges or other benefits in exchange).Įmpire-tier rule could also introduce new forms of realm management and policy that affect what type of problems you'll have. Independence factions should be a lot more common, but there should also be new ways to manage them, e.g. I'd love to see entirely new mechanics about managing borderlands vs heartlands, where culture, faith and vassal contracts like March/Iqta vs Scutage/Jizya vs Palatinate vs Ghazi, etc start to actually influence AI behavior. Like how currently there's an event upon succession if you're at empire-tier? That should be just the start. IMO forming an empire should change gameplay radically.
